Tips

  • Light: Weeping Figs thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. They can tolerate some direct morning sunlight, but avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch their leaves. Place them near a window with filtered light or use sheer curtains to diffuse sunlight.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season (spring and summer). Water thoroughly and ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging. In the winter months, reduce watering, allowing the top 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) of soil to dry out between waterings.
  • Soil Type: Weeping Figs thrive in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. A recommended potting mix is a blend of peat-based potting soil, perlite, and a touch of sand for improved drainage.
  • Coffee Grounds: You can incorporate coffee grounds into the soil for Weeping Figs. Coffee grounds can help improve soil structure and add some acidity, which is generally suitable for these plants. However, use coffee grounds in moderation to avoid over-acidifying the soil. Mixing a small amount into the potting mix or using them as a top dressing occasionally can be beneficial.
  • Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a consistent room temperature between 15°C to 24°C (59°F to 75°F). Weeping Figs appreciate higher humidity levels, so consider using a humidity tray or room humidifier to keep the air around them adequately moist, especially during the winter when indoor air tends to be drier.
  • Fertilization: Feed your Weeping Fig with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or eliminate fertilization in the winter months when growth slows down.
  • Pruning: Prune your Weeping Fig to shape and control its growth. Removing dead or yellowing leaves and occasional thinning can help maintain its appearance.
  • Repotting: Repot your Weeping Fig every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage to accommodate its growing roots.
