Tips

  • Light: Kris Plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch their leaves. Place them near a window with filtered or diffused light, or use sheer curtains to protect them from intense sun.
  • Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged during the growing season (spring and summer). Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry. In the dormant winter months, reduce watering, allowing the top 2-3 centimeters (1 inch) of soil to dry out between waterings.
  • Soil Type: A well-draining, peat-based potting mix is ideal for Kris Plants. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the roots.
  • Coffee Grounds: While coffee grounds can be used for some plants, they may not be suitable for the Kris Plant. These plants prefer a slightly acidic to neutral soil, and coffee grounds can make the soil more acidic over time. It’s best to avoid using coffee grounds for this particular plant.
  • Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a warm and humid environment for your Kris Plant. They prefer temperatures between 18°C to 27°C (65°F to 80°F) and appreciate higher humidity levels. You can increase humidity by using a humidity tray, room humidifier, or regularly misting the plant.
  • Fertilization: Feed your Kris Plant with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or eliminate fertilization in the winter months when growth slows down.
  • Pruning: Prune your Kris Plant as needed to remove damaged or yellowing leaves. Avoid excessive pruning, as they have a limited number of leaves, and over-pruning can stress the plant.
  • Repotting: Repot your Kris Plant every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage to accommodate its growing roots.
